As 8th graders this is our last musical we will participate at Chilton. Our directors have worked very hard to put this production together and this week is auditions. Many people find it nerve racking to sing in front of your friends or even people you don’t know, but in the end you just have to remember that it for fun and that if you do your best you will get a good part. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will wake up at 6:30 in the morning to get to practice every Tuesday and Thursday. Because of our experience at doing this for 3 years, we know how hard it is to get up early and try to sing your heart out. We will perform in mid April and the lead role of Peter Pan will be portrayed by Spencer Worley. Mr. Darling: Carlos Celio, Mrs. Darling: Eliana Rubinstein, Wendy Darling: Lizzy Richey, John Darling: Caylee George, Michael Darling: Caleb Burch, Captain Hook: Makena Locsin, Tiger Lily: Nellie Richey, Smee: Jacob Rodriques. As we go through our last year at Chilton, we will miss our teachers and the directors that helped us succeed and become better singers and actors. by Samantha Loma and Pauline Urbano
The meme world right now is flourishing. We all know them and we all love them. Almost every day there is a new meme such as the very popular Spongebob memes, the Walmart Yodeling kid, the loving, wholesome memes and the ´´If you don't love me at my _____ then you don't deserve me at my ____’ meme. Memes have evolved a lot from since when they started going viral if you think about it. The memes back then were very descriptive and tells you the meaning up front. Before the internet, memes were referred to cultural ideas, fashion, skills, etc. One of the first memes on the internet were based on 3D animations and GIFS. Today, they are usually jokes, urban legends, viral videos, funny pictures, or music. Memes help shape popular culture, change the way we live our lives, and continually evolve with modern society today. by Kadence and Peyton
Procrastination can lead to bad grades in school and unorganized students. Procrastination is when you have a task at hand and you don’t do it until the day it’s due, and/or you don’t do it at all. You want to get out of the habit of procrastination when you are young, because when you’re an adult it can lead to bad consequences. Procrastination is common among young people, but it usually carries out into their adult years. It made seem good at first to procrastinate, but it is not a good skill to have in life. Typically procrastination happens when you don’t want to do something and you get caught up in another, not as important thing, such as you’re phone. Remember kids, don’t procrastinate! by Parker Ziring
These days you may have noticed that many people have started listening to the Broadway musical, Hamilton. This modern take on an older topic has intrigued many people. In fact, it has set the record for most money ever made in a single week by a Broadway show. Even more people listen to the soundtrack on their mobile devices or computers. When I started listening to Hamilton, it was the only non-Disney musical I had listened to. Nowadays I listen to many different musicals ranging from Waitress to Heathers. I would recommend Broadway soundtracks to people because they’re less auto-tuned than normal music, and address topics that you can’t find on the radio. by Brendan Wilk and Donovon Johnson
The movie releases this Friday, but there are some special showings on this Thursday night. This movies been kept a total secret just like the last huge release, The Force Awakens. This is the third movie out of the four movies Lucasfilm has decided to launch in their four year run of movies which include “Rogue One” and “The Force Awakens”. In this movie, though, there should be a lot of action and a lot of information about characters given out to help the fans understand the story better. After the movie’s trailer was released, there were a lot of theories that popped up about the movie’s outcome. One theory that interested us was that Luke was the last Jedi and is going to get killed off by Rey as she goes to the dark side with Kylo Ren. There was a very special showing last Friday in Los Angeles and the reviews didn’t say anything about the story, but just that everyone gave rave reviews about it and said that the new director did an amazing job having many new and unique ideas that went above and beyond anything that the Star Wars series has ever seen. We and most people are really excited to see and figure out this movie. by Lois Sison

On October 21, 2016, Chilton lost one of their former students. Camy Smith was only fifteen years old when she sadly lost her hard fight against leukemia. Her brother actually goes to our school, and is currently a seventh grader named Landon Smith. She was loved by all of her teachers, including Mr. Beaman, Mrs. Osterholt and Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Osterholt remembers that Camy always had a big smile on her face, and touched everybody she met and even the people she never got to meet. Mr. Phillips, also one of her former teachers, remembers that Camy had such a positive attitude and such a great spirit. She loved life, was energetic, and was a very hardworking student. Hearing Mrs. Osterholt and Mr. Phillips talk about Camy caused me to tear up, and when I walked out of Mr. Phillips classroom, I actually went and slid down against the wall, and cried. I didn't know her but it felt like I did. Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat. by Nicholas Primavera
So, as the week finally ends before week 5 begins with the Patriots vs. Bucs on Thursday, for Thursday Night Football. With the week ending with the Chiefs just edging the Redskins 29-20 with the Chiefs scoring nine points in the last 55 seconds. On Sunday, a lot of madness went down on a long day of football. On Sunday Night Football, the Seahawks destroyed the Colts 46-18 with Russell Wilson throwing for 3 TDs, and a horrific injury by starting RB Chris Carson. As a decent recap for the day on Sunday, the Broncos topped the Raiders 16-10 with Derek Carr injured for about two weeks. The Patriots got upstaged by the Panthers! After a slow start from Cam Newton, he raced down the field at the end of the game to setup Graham Gano for the game-winning field goal to win 33-30. The Texans beat the Titans by a score of 57-14! Deshawn Watson had the game of his life in his second start of his rookie season by throwing 4 TDs and running for 1 TD. The Titans who had a solid defense before the game just got abused by the offense of Watson, Miller, and Hopkins. The Vikings almost beat the red-hot Lions but ended up losing 14-7 in a defense heavy game. The Cardinals edged the 49ers 18-15 in the biggest snoozefest of the season so far. Both teams combined for nine field goals before Palmer connected with Fitzgerald for the Touchdown with 32 seconds left in OT. The Rams topped the Cowboys in a complete field day for Todd Gurley. He had 121 rushing yards with at least 90 more receiving with one touchdown to top it off. Across the Atlantic Ocean, the Saints and Dolphins duked it out in London. The Saints ran straight through the Dolphins with a score of 20-0. Drew Brees had a great game with help from Thomas and Mark Ingram. The Jags took on the Jets in the Big Apple and came down to a relatively good game in the end. The Jets stole their first win of the season in OT as the Jets kick the game away with the game-winning FG to win 23-20. But on Thursday Night before the Sunday to kick off the week 4, the Packers beat up the Bears 35-14 with Rodgers being just plain Rodgers. But with bad injuries to Ty Montgomery and Davante Adams, it was a rough night especially with a dirty hit on Adams that caused Danny Trevathan a couple game suspension. Now, to all the fans who may read this, I’m sorry if I didn’t bring up your team/game during this week of football. Take Care. by Mason Nesbitt
I recently got a finger jam and I really hurt for a while. What happened was I was playing basketball. I was trying to get a pass that was directed to me so I could hold the ball and let my teammates readjust, but when I tried to grab the ball it was a little higher than I thought. The ball hit right on the tip of my finger. I didn’t think much of it during the first game but in the second game I got the ball then someone hit it out of my hand. It really hurt, so I sat out of bounds and the other team was fair and another person had a swollen finger. Afterwards a teacher came over and told me to go get some ice, which I did, then changed out of PE Clothes. At lunch I text my grandma asking her for her medical expertise because I was worried that had broken my right pointer finger. I wasn’t feeling it for some reason. So after our conversation she concluded that I had jammed my finger and should put an ice bag on the finger multiple times a day and try my best not to bend it. |
